Aston Villa accept substantial commercial hit is coming soon after Premier League ban
Aston Villa are reportedly bracing for financial losses ahead of the Premier League’s implementation to ban gambling firms as front-of-shirt sponsors for 2026-27.
It’s no secret that Aston Villa have been under significant financial pressure for some time now, with challenges involving both PSR and UEFA financial restrictions respectively.
Villa eased their financial issues somewhat by selling off their women’s team to a holding company that owns the Villans in June of last year, in a deal that was reportedly worth around £55million.
Meanwhile, attempting to stay within the boundaries of UEFA’s maximum allowance of 70 per cent spending of club revenue on ‘football costs’ rule has also proven tough for Villa.

Why Aston Villa are forecasted financial hardship next season
In a fresh report form the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are said to be finding the going tough financially at present, and that’s set to continue into next season.
The Premier League agreed upon a new ruling three years ago that will forbid any team in the division from sporting gambling firms as a front-of-shirt sponsor, which will come into effect from the 2026-27 season.
This impacts Villa due to the fact that they’re currently sponsored by Betano on the front of their shirts, which is a Greek-based sports betting company, meaning that deal will have to come to an end from next season onwards.
However, in this aforementioned report, it’s stated that Villa’s owners, NSWE, are yet to find a new partner to sponsor the front of their shirts for next year.

On top of that, there is also said to be an acceptance that any new agreement with a different sponsor is unlikely to match/better their current deal with Betano, which is understood to be worth around £20m per year.
Therefore, if they don’t sort this soon, then Villa could be scrambling around for a sponsor before the 2026-27 season starts, and that would lower their leverage further when it comes to negotiating the best deal possible.
Villa fans told to brace for summer overhaul
In situations such as this one, the best and quickest way to raise money is through player sales.
With Aston Villa competing for a Champions League spot in the Premier League this season, it’s fair to say that Unai Emery’s side definitely has some saleable assets in the squad.
As such, the aforementioned report from the Daily Mail claims that Villa are likely to be required to make a large sum of money through player sales this summer, regardless of whether they finish in the top four or not.
So, players such as Morgan Rogers, Emi Martinez and Ezri Konso could be prime candidates for big-money moves away from Villa Park this summer.
