Chris Sutton ‘gutted’ for Aston Villa as he predicts Wolves repeat
Chris Sutton believes that Aston Villa will get back to winning ways in the Premier League against Wolves on Friday evening.
Unai Emery’s side have faltered slightly over the last few weeks, picking up just eight points from their last six top-flight games.
Villa are still in prime position to secure a Champions League spot come the end of the season, six points clear of sixth-place Liverpool, but they need to rediscover some form quickly.
They head to Molineux to face Rob Edwards’ side as heavy favourites, and will be hoping to come away with a comfortable victory.

Chris Sutton tips Aston Villa to end poor run
Last weekend, Villa managed to snatch a 1-1 draw against Leeds United, despite trailing for the majority of the game.
Anton Stach’s long-range free-kick gave the Whites a first-half lead, and it wasn’t until the 88th minute that Midlands outfit equalised, Tammy Abraham turning home from a corner.
Former Premier League winner Sutton predicts that Villa will have no such trouble against Wolves and will win 1-0 at Molineux.
In his weekly BBC column, Sutton revealed that he is “gutted” that Emery’s side have dropped out of the title race, and still believes they will have to work hard to secure victory on Friday night, despite the gulf in quality between the two teams.

He said: “There is no doubt Wolves have improved under Rob Edwards, but this is still a game I’d expect Aston Villa to win.
“Unai Emery’s side have slipped up a few times in recent weeks, however, and it has cost them. They have only won one of their past four league games and I am a bit gutted they haven’t managed a couple more wins to really be in the title race.
“I still think they will have too much for Wolves, but they are going to have to work hard for the points. Villa won 1-0 at Villa Park earlier in the season, so I am going for the same scoreline here.”
Aston Villa’s form has dropped off massively
For a three-month period between the end of September and the end of December, Aston Villa were near-unstoppable.
They won 17 out of 19 games across all competitions, boosting themselves into an unexpected title race.
However, following their 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in their final outing of 2025, Villa’s form has dropped off massively.

Including the game at the Emirates, Emery’s side have won just three of their last nine top-flight matches, picking up 12 points in that time.
Their Premier League points per game tally has dropped to just 1.33, whereas in the three months (13 games) prior to that, it was up at 2.77.
