Supercomputer predicts Aston Villa to complete 22-year first in Premier League clash vs Wolves

Aston Villa will consider themselves as favourites for Friday’s Premier League meeting with Wolves at Molineux.

Despite drawing 1-1 to Leeds at Villa Park last Saturday, Unai Emery’s side still have a six-point lead over sixth-placed Liverpool in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

As for Wolves, they’re rooted to the bottom of the table, and relegation to the Championship now looks inevitable with 10 games remaining.

Regardless of the difference in quality between both sides, Friday’s clash will be a hotly-contested affair, and it’s imperative that Villa avoid slipping up against Rob Edwards’ side.

Supercomputer predicts Aston Villa as clear favourites vs Wolves

Wolves’ nine-year stay in the Premier League will likely come to an end in May, and it’s fair to say that they’ve been woeful all season.

They’re winless in 17 games against sides in the top half of the table since winning 1-0 against Bournemouth in February 2025, and Villa should feel incredibly confident going into the match.

According to Opta‘s supercomputer, Emery’s side will return to winning ways at Molineux.

Villa have won three of their last four Premier League games against Wolves (L1), as many as in their previous 15.

Emery can also give his players some extra motivation, as Villa can complete the Premier League double over them for the first time since 2003-04.

The reverse fixture in November saw Villa win 1-0 thanks to Boubacar Kamara’s stunning long-range strike.

It feels quite shocking that the Villans haven’t done the top-flight double over Wolves in 22 years, but all the stats are pointing to them doing just that this week.

Wolves have been awful on all fronts this season

Although Emery’s side haven’t won at Molineux since 2020, they’ll be encouraged by Wolves’ poor goalscoring record.

No Wolves player has scored more than twice so far in the Premier League this season. With 28 games played, it’s the latest into a season a team has had to wait for a player to score at least three goals.

They have also conceded the first goal in 22 different Premier League games this season, which is more than any other side in the division.

Having failed to score in 15 different top-flight games this campaign, Wolves have been abysmal, and the Villans can’t afford to drop points against the Black Country outfit in the race for a top-five finish.
