Emi Martinez reacts as Marco Bizot pens apology to Aston Villa fans after ‘horrendous’ moment

Aston Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot has finally spoken out after his red card against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Dutchman was sent off in the FA Cup fourth round at Villa Park for a poor challenge on Jacob Murphy just before the half-time interval.

Leon Bailey’s loose pass left the 34-year-old with a decision to make, but his choice to take out the winger didn’t go down well in B6.

Bizot was shown red in the 3-1 defeat, but he has now taken to Instagram on Wednesday to apologise to the claret and blue faithful for his actions.

He said: “I needed a few days to reflect and reset. I want to apologise for my red card and the impact it had on the team and the fans.

“I understand that my action put the team in a difficult position. Need to keep going and keep working hard. Up The Villa.”

There is no getting away from the fact that the keeper’s sending off ultimately resulted in the Magpies claiming victory in the Midlands.

Villa had looked the better side for the most part in the first half, with Tammy Abraham’s goal making the difference going in at the break.

The atmosphere surrounding Villa Park became instantly tense when Bizot saw red, and he has now taken responsibility for that.

His performances this season have seen the wider Villa fanbase forgive their number 40, and it seems that has been echoed by his teammates.

Fellow keeper Emi Martinez commented with three raised hands emojis, while Matty Cash replied to his apology post with two love hearts.

Harvey Elliott also liked the post to show his appreciation to the number two keeper, who now has to move on from his FA Cup shocker.

Dion Dublin slammed Bizot red card in Aston Villa vs Newcastle United

Bizot has now apologised, but as Villa lost 3-1 to Newcastle, there was no defending his actions that led to the red card.

On first viewing, fans in B6 may have suggested that he wasn’t the last man, and the covering defenders should have been included in any decision.

That isn’t the case when you watch closer and see that the tackle in itself was probably deserving of a red card, regardless of him being the last man.

That was the feeling of Dion Dublin while speaking on BBC One, as he slated the Dutchman’s tackle at Villa Park.

He said: “That’s just a horrendous challenge, terrible challenge.

The former Villa striker hit the nail on the head, but everyone will now have to move on, accept Bizot’s apology and hope he will learn from this moving forward.
