NSWE to be delighted with £8.7m investment after what Alysson did for Aston Villa vs Brighton

Alysson showed a lot of promise on his Aston Villa debut against Brighton on Wednesday.

The Villans beat the Seagulls 1-0 thanks to a dramatic late own goal, as chaos ensued around Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s side were banging on the door all game, and Alysson‘s introduction only helped the momentum in favour of the Spaniard’s team.

NSWE spent an eyebrow-raising £8.7million on the Brazilian when signing him from Gremio in the winter transfer market.

But when looking at his performance in detail, Aston Villa will only be wondering how they got the winger so cheaply.

Alysson a menace on debut for Aston Villa; the stats show why

Alysson cost Aston Villa £8.7m with a reported £1.7.5million in add-ons. Gremio do have a 10 per cent sell-on clause for the 19-year-old, but they may now be regretting their choices in negotiations.

The teenager has come to B6 at a time where Villa are pushing for greatness in the Premier League, and NSWE know the financial constraints they’ll need to avoid to get there.

However, their £8.7m winter investment may be one that pays off tenfold, especially after analysing the Sofascore graphic provided below.

As highlighted, Alysson managed to grab a 6.6 rating in just 16 minutes of play time, in comparison to the likes of Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins, who both scored less with 6.3 and 6.2.

The right-winger had just six touches, and every single one of them looked electric, as he was always looking to make things happen. Given the confidence that Alysson has already shown in a Premier League match, there’s no doubt he will kick on from here.

Has Jadon Sancho had one chance too many?

Jadon Sancho has shown glimpses of his brilliance in an Aston Villa shirt, but similarly to his past seasons, is struggling to string consistent performances together.

The winger was hooked on the hour mark with the Villans in desperate search of a goal, as he was replaced by Leon Bailey, who then went on to have a massive impact for the winning goal.

Sancho has a point to prove, and that’s even more worrying considering the lack of consistency that is being seen from him at Villa park.

Now with Alysson seemingly ready to snatch his chance at first-team level, and Bailey back in the mix for Emery, Sancho could be all out of chances.
