Tyrone Mings sends brutal message to Harvey Elliott every Aston Villa fan will agree with

Harvey Elliott played his first full 90 minutes for Aston Villa on Thursday night.

Unai Emery heavily rotated his Aston Villa starting XI against Salzburg, with a number of young and fringe players getting the chance to play.

Aston Villa ran out 3-2 winners over Salzburg, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Tyrone Mings and Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba completing a second-half comeback, having been 2-0 down with under 30 minutes to play.

The win was overshadowed, however, as Ollie Watkins was forced off injured after 35 minutes after appearing to pull his hamstring.

Tyrone Mings sends hilarious Harvey Elliott message

Elliott has had to remain extremely patient for his Aston Villa opportunities since signing on loan from Liverpool in this season’s summer window.

The 22-year-old midfielder has made just four Premier League appearances in 2025-26, and before Thursday night, had never played a full 90 minutes for Villa.

However, with injuries across his midfield and with a round of 16 place already secured before kick-off, Emery decided to hand Elliott his big chance.

And, he largely took it, as he completed 87 per cent of his passes, had three shots on goal and won 100 per cent of his tackles, as per Sofascore.

Taking to his Instagram account after the game, Elliott posted a series of images of himself from the Salzburg win, captioned with: “How I’ve missed that! Thank you for your incredible support tonight… great win to top it off!”

Replying to this post was a number of Villa players, including Mings, who instead of saying any words to his teammate, responded with the well-known ‘I thought you were dead?’ Ian Wright GIF, which has garnered thousands of likes.

Unai Emery drops latest Elliot transfer update

It’s been widely reported that Liverpool could recall Elliott this winter, given his lack of game time at Villa Park.

Emery knows that Villa will have to purchase Elliott on a permanent basis for £35million if he plays a certain amount of games for him this season, which is something he’s not appeared overly keen to do.

And speaking after the game, Emery confirmed that precious little has changed regarding his and Villa’s stance on Elliott despite his Salzburg performance.

“It is not changing. I told you yesterday, his situation is not changing.” Emery said when asked if Elliott would still be a Villa player after Monday’s transfer deadline.

“Today he played, it is fantastic how he helped us.”
