Aston Villa set £40m price tag on ‘brilliant’ star amid Man United development

Man United are one of several clubs interested in signing one of Aston Villa’s key players.

Aston Villa are in the Premier League title race this season, though their hands have been somewhat tied when it comes to increasing their chances through recruitment.

PSR restraints have made it difficult for incoming business, though Aston Villa have completed the signing of Tammy Abraham in the midst of that.

However, their financial position hasn’t prevented players from being linked with an exit, with Man United one of several teams monitoring the situation of one of their stars.

Emi Martinez could still leave Aston Villa

Based on pure impact, Morgan Rogers has probably been Aston Villa’s most crucial player this season, though the success that they have found would not have been possible without several others.

That includes Emi Martinez, who has been one of the best-performing goalkeepers in the Premier League throughout this campaign.

It was the same last time out against Newcastle, when Don Goodman was blown away by a “brilliant” save made by the Argentine to prevent the Villans going 1-0 down within minutes.

However, exit links have still been strong, with a report from Fichajes now stating that Villa have set a £40million asking price for Martinez, who has interest from Inter Milan and from Manchester United.

Martinez looked destined for an exit from Villa Park in the summer, though that deal fell through in the final stages.

The report adds that the Villans will not consider anything less for their number one.

Why Aston Villa are unlikely to accept anything for Emi Martinez

If you were to ask Unai Emery about Martinez’s future, you’d likely get a two-word response: Marco Bizot.

However, if you were to ask anyone else involved at Villa Park, they would likely tell you that he is not for sale at any price with just days left in the transfer window.

Aston Villa can achieve something special this season, and no matter who they replace him with, their chances of doing that would be hindered massively by Martinez‘s exit.

Not just because of his impact on the pitch, but also his experience and know-how off of it.

There is every chance that Martinez leaves in the summer, but it would take something crazy for it to happen before the deadline on 2 February.
