Ross Barkley snaps back at Aston Villa fan over latest contract reveal online

Ross Barkley’s future at Aston Villa is definitely unclear.

Barkley has been unable to get a consistent run of games under Unai Emery since joining the Villans in 2024, with injuries taking over.

He has played just eight times this season and has been out with a knee issue since Villa’s 1-0 win over Wolves on 30 November.

The 32-year-old’s last goal came in the 4-0 victory against Bournemouth on 9 November, but that definitely could be his last in a Villa shirt.

Ross Barkley hits back at Aston Villa fan online

With Barkley not getting much game time at Villa, there’s always speculation over his future in B6.

An Aston Villa fan account posted that Barkley is the only player permanently at the club whose contract runs out in June 2026.

The former England midfielder replied, claiming that it was completely false.

The Aston Villa fan account, named ‘Villa Til I Die’, replied: “There’s an option for another year, hopefully they keep it going and can have a stint of being injury-free.”

The truth is that Villa have the option to extend Barkley’s deal for another year once it comes to an end in June.

It’s quite amusing that a fan outlined the full details of his own contract, and it’s not the greatest look for the midfielder.

Whether Emery chooses to extend the contract is a completely different question.

Should Aston Villa extend Barkley’s contract for next season?

It’s safe to say that Barkley has had his fair share of injuries, and he isn’t one of the most valuable players in the squad.

His injury record over the course of his career isn’t promising, and there’s a good chance he could spend much of next season on the sidelines.

However, his pedigree in the top flight is seriously impressive, and he always makes an impact off the bench.

The 32-year-old was one of the best players in the league for Luton Town during the 2023-24 campaign, registering nine goal contributions in 32 games.

With John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara currently out injured, Barkley would be an incredibly valuable asset, and it would be silly not have him as a backup option next year.

Only time will tell if the former Chelsea man can still make an impact in B6.
