Aston Villa dominoes fall into place as Tammy Abraham signing announced
Tammy Abraham has been a target for Aston Villa this winter.
After Aston Villa’s 2-0 win over Newcastle, the Villans are well and truly back in the Premier League title race, whether or not Unai Emery wants to admit that or not.
With Arsenal having suffered a defeat at home to Man United, the Villans sit just four points adrift of the top spot, with some favourable fixtures approaching.
However, to ensure that they make the most of their upcoming encounters, Emery needs to see some transfer movement, and after the latest announcement, it looks as though one is edging closer to completion.
Tammy Abraham moves one step closer to Aston Villa return
Aston Villa have scored the fewest goals of any side currently sitting in the top six this season, and while that may not be a concern right now, it could prove to be if not addressed.
Ollie Watkins has struggled for form throughout the season, and it was no different against Newcastle when he fluffed several decent opportunities in the final third.
As a result, Villa have been looking to bring Abraham back to the Premier League, and with Besiktas now having announced his permanent signing, that may have just moved one step closer.
The Turkish outfit had an obligation to buy after certain criteria were met, and for Besiktas to have announced the arrival now, it means that they are seemingly preparing to move him on again.
Aston Villa have until 2 February to seal any winter arrivals, and there will be hope that this one is done in time for that deadline.
Frank Lampard says Abraham has everything needed to thrive under Unai Emery
Abraham has certainly been around the block throughout his career, with several loan spells before a move to Italy and then to Turkey, where he is today.
However, it was his time at Chelsea that really kick-started his career, and in particular, under the stewardship of Frank Lampard.
Abraham flourished under Lampard, and from their time together, the striker managed 30 goals in 79 appearances for the Blues, earning plenty of praise from his manager.
Lampard said back in 2019: “I’m delighted with Tammy. He has a really great attitude in training, a desire to score goals and his all-round game was really good as well.
“The staff and I are working closely with him on little bits of his game, and he’s been very receptive to that.”
