Leon Bailey already lined up for Aston Villa exit as face-to-face talks with Champions League club set
Leon Bailey’s return to Aston Villa could be short-lived after his loan with Roma was terminated.
Unai Emery still has areas to improve in the January transfer window, and some supporters thought that Villa recalling Bailey from his loan at Roma would ease some of the Spaniard’s issues.
The Jamaican has played exceptionally well for the Villans in the past, but after his form dipped last season, it was clear that a temporary move from B6 was needed in the summer.
Things didn’t work out the way that all parties would have hoped with the loan move to Roma, but Bailey could already be set to find himself at a new club very shortly.

Ajax technical director jets in to meet Leon Bailey
Aston Villa‘s social media activity made it seem like there was a possibility that Bailey could play an important part for Emery in the second half of the season.
There’s no doubt that the winger has quality, as his time in Italy was also unfairly blighted by injuries and a lack of game time.
- Bailey started just once in the Serie A
- He racked up 182 league minutes for Roma
- Bailey registered an assist in his last club for the Italian giants
Internal figures at Roma were said to be frustrated with Bailey and seemed resentful over his loan switch.
But the 28-year-old now has a major chance to redeem himself, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to be at Villa Park.
According to De Telegraaf on Wednesday, Ajax’s technical director, Marijn Beuker, jetted straight to Istanbul after the Dutch side’s 2-1 Champions League win over Villarreal this week.
This is because he aims to meet with Bailey as Aston Villa travel to face Fenerbahce on Thursday.
It’s not yet known whether this is for a permanent or loan deal, but either may come to Villa’s aid in their pursuit of recruits in the coming days.
Why Bailey’s exit can help Tammy Abraham deal go through
Tammy Abraham is close to joining Villa years after his successful loan stint from Chelsea during the 2018-19 season.
However, there have been suggestions to say that if the Villans pull the deal off, then it will have pushed their financial expenditure to the limit.
Bailey is on high wages at Villa, and with Abraham reportedly earning £100,000 per week, the former’s exit could be seen as crucial this month.

The Villans may have also had to pay Roma compensation for recalling Bailey from his loan deal early, which makes it vital for Roberto Olabe and Co. to gather more funds from his sale.
Villa are moving in a new direction, and while the right-winger has enjoyed his time at B6, his exit is best for everyone involved, with Ajax his next possible destination.
