Jadon Sancho has just done something that only Harry Kane and Phil Foden can match

Aston Villa loanee Jadon Sancho has moved into elite goalscoring company, something which not many would expect.

Sancho signed for Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United, arriving on deadline day in the summer transfer window.

After his move to Villa Park was confirmed, many Villa fans weren’t taken by Sancho’s signing, as the 25-year-old has struggled in English football somewhat.

The 23-cap England international enjoyed a superb start to his career with Borussia Dortmund, but he’s never been capable of replicating his production in Germany on these shores to date.

However, Sancho has come in for praise for his recent performances, and on Thursday night, he showed why he’s still a big part of Unai Emery’s team this season.

Jadon Sancho makes English goalscoring history

Aston Villa took on Fenerbahce on Thursday night in the Europa League, as Emery’s side resumed their excellent campaign in the competition so far with a 1-0 win.

And after a couple of early opportunities to take the lead passed them by, it was Sancho who stepped up in the 25th minute to open the scoring.

It came from a long free-kick that was launched deep into Fenerbahce territory down their left flank, where it found Matty Cash.

After briefly losing the ball, Villa quickly recovered it just outside the box on the right, before some nice link-up play saw the ball back with Cash, and his deflected cross found its way to Sancho.

He nodded the ball past Ederson in the Fenerbahce goal from seven yards out, and in turn, he wrote himself a piece of English goalscoring history in European competitions.

As detailed by OptaJoe on X, Sancho now joins Harry Kane and Phil Foden as the only three English players to score in a major European competition in each of the last eight seasons, dating back to the 2018-19 campaign.

Sancho will be hoping Leon Bailey recall doesn’t hinder his progress

Aston Villa recalled Leon Bailey from his loan spell with Roma this week, after the winger had been struggling for gametime in Italy.

Naturally, this adds some further competition for places on the wings: competition that Sancho doesn’t really want.

Having started just twice in the Premier League this season, Sancho is already finding it tough to carve out a big role under Emery, and so adding Bailey back into the mix won’t help either.
