Joe Hart spot on with Aston Villa star who deserved glory in ‘moment of match’ vs Everton

Aston Villa had more than enough chances to get something out of the defeat to Everton on Sunday.

Everton walked away from Villa Park with three points after beating Villa 1-0 courtesy of Thierno Barry’s second-half strike.

Unai Emery has led his side to an incredible winning run of games in the Premier League recently, but form appears to be slowing down.

Morgan Rogers had a couple of chances in the game, and Joe Hart knows that the Aston Villa star did his best against the Toffees.

Joe Hart astonished at Jordan Pickford and Morgan Rogers

Rogers has carried Villa on his own back at times this season, but Emery’s side may have an unhealthy reliance on the England international.

The attacking midfielder was once again picking up the ball in dangerous positions, but for one reason or another, Rogers was unable to find the back of the net.

The 23-year-old had an 85 per cent passing accuracy and fired six shots at Everton’s goal during the match, as Jordan Pickford denied Rogers from a wonderful second-half effort.

While speaking on Match of the Day, Hart explained how impressed he’s been with Rogers this campaign, and how he was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet on Sunday.

Hart said: “Villa weren’t bad today, and Rogers wasn’t bad today. He was right up there in the running stats, he’s Villa’s talisman this year, top assists, top goalscorer. With Villa winning games, this man is at the heart of it.

“He’s such an effective player and is having such a good season. This is the moment of the match from a Villa point of view, just gets the curling shot off, but [Jordan] Pickford is so fast across his line.”

On another night, Rogers may have stolen the headlines, but it wasn’t to be.

Now, further statistics from the game suggest that Emery may have a new issue to resolve in the January transfer window.

Aston Villa created zero big chances vs Everton

While it’s true that Rogers could have done better with a couple of efforts in the match, he was undeniably unfortunate not to score.

The Villans can’t become dependent on goals from long distance again, as they have been, but now it seems to be a worrying possibility.

A third of Villa’s shots were from outside the box, as Emery’s side showed a lack of chance creation or ability to break Everton’s backline down.

With the transfer window here, NSWE may need to do what they can in order to relieve some of the responsibility from Rogers’ shoulders.

If he’s not scoring goals or contributing with assists, then Villa usually struggle. It’s painfully obvious that new creative additions are needed to help Rogers in the final third.
