Aston Villa transfer window to take turn after Tammy Abraham deal is agreed

Aston Villa are hoping to finalise a deal to sign Tammy Abraham before the end of the transfer window.

Abraham is open to rejoining Aston Villa, after his loan spell at the Midlands club back in the 2018-19 season.

The Englishman scored 26 goals in the Championship as Dean Smith’s side were promoted to the Premier League through the play-offs.

Unai Emery is reportedly a big fan of Abraham and believes the former Chelsea centre-forward can provide backup for Ollie Watkins, as well as potentially playing alongside the Villa frontman.

Aston Villa will struggle financially after Tammy Abraham signing

Abraham is currently on loan at Besiktas from Roma, but the Turkish giants have a conditional obligation to buy him, meaning that they will be the ones negotiating with Villa.

While the transfer fee is not expected to be an issue, the 28-year-old’s wages could be a problem, as he is currently earning over £100,000 per week.

However, there is growing optimism that a deal can be reached before the end of the month.

According to The Guardian, if a deal for Abraham is completed, sporting director Roberto Olabe will have very little financial wiggle room to bring in other targets.

It could mean that Villa will struggle to get further additions over the line without breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

The Midlands club have been battling with PSR in recent years, and only just avoided punishment for last year’s accounts.

Aston Villa may have made grave error

In order to facilitate the Abraham signing, Aston Villa let Donyell Malen move to Roma on an initial loan deal.

The transfer includes a £21.7m obligation to buy, meaning the 26-year-old will join permanently at the end of the season.

However, while Aston Villa were losing 1-0 to Everton on Sunday afternoon, Malen was scoring on his debut for Roma, helping them to a 2-0 win over Torino.

The irony that Emery’s side were unable to break down the Toffees while their departed star found the back of the net won’t be lost on Villa fans.

The Midlands giants will be hoping that Abraham hits the ground running if the deal is confirmed, to ensure that the Malen sale doesn’t come back to bite them.
