Aston Villa stars take less than subtle swipe at Joao Palhinha after post-match brawl vs Tottenham

Aston Villa players and fans alike weren’t impressed with Tottenham midfielder Joao Palhinha on Saturday.

Villa secured a 2-1 win against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to secure a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Lamare Bogarde put in a star showing in North London as he made up for the absence of Boubacar Kamara after he was forced off injured.

The Frenchman was replaced by the ever-consistent Youri Tielemans for Villa after he was knocked down by Palhinha after just four minutes.

The Portugal international later clashed with Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins, sparking a funny set of social media posts from several Villa stars.

Palhinha was once linked to Aston Villa, but now the claret and blue faithful won’t be upset about missing out on his signing.

The Bayern Munich loanee somehow avoided a red card in the clash against Unai Emery’s men after racking up four fouls in North London.

He was eventually booked, but his challenges, on top of a headbutt on Watkins on the full-time whistle, should have seen a harsher punishment.

It seems as if the Villans got under Palhinha’s skin after their victory was confirmed, as he brawled with the likes of Watkins, Rogers, Bogarde and Ezri Konsa in front of the 9,000 away fans.

To get back at the Spurs midfielder, various Villa stars have been less than subtle with digs at him on social media.

Youri Tielemans’ Instagram post features an image of him tackling Palhinha and winning the ball, with the caption, “Next round secured.

That was matched by Rogers, who also featured an image of himself and the Portuguese, but not involving a tackle.

Instead, the England international shared a picture taken as he sprinted away from the ex-Fulham man, leaving him in the dust.

That was added to by a final image of him squaring up to Palhinha, met with a comment from Matty Cash reading, “Hahahaha, the last.”

Lamare Bogarde joins in with Palhinha swipe

There is no lack of stars who are having fun poking at the Tottenham man after he lost his head in North London.

Bogarde is just another name who has featured Spurs’ loanee in his Instagram carousel, with the first image featuring him duelling for possession with his midfield counterpart.

The next picture sees him alongside Rogers in front of Palhinha in the post-match brawl as he got among his teammates up against the Portugal international.

All this seems rather petty to some, but to others just goes to show the togetherness that continues to thrive in this high-flying Villa squad.
