Aston Villa make stunning move in Conor Gallagher transfer saga as Unai Emery’s stance detailed

Aston Villa want to bring Conor Gallagher back to the Premier League this month.

Villa were linked with Gallagher when he left Chelsea in 2024, but they did not pursue his signature, and he joined Atletico Madrid.

The Villa Park outfit are looking to bring in top-quality additions to bolster their Champions League qualification hopes.

A report from talkSPORT on 9 January claims that the Villans are exploring the possibility of signing Gallagher in a stunning swoop.

Unai Emery’s stance on Conor Gallagher transfer emerges

Unai Emery is understood to be keen on bringing the 25-year-old back to English football.

The report claims that Emery has admired Gallagher since he was at Chelsea, and he may finally get to work with him.

It states that Villa are seeking a loan with an obligation to buy in the summer, with the former Blues star keen on the move.

He wants to bolster his chances of making Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, despite being happy in Spain at the moment.

What would Gallagher bring to Villa?

Gallagher would bring a wealth of experience to Emery’s squad, both in terms of the domestic and European stages.

He has featured 136 times in the Premier League across spells with West Brom, Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

He also has a significant understanding of La Liga, another top European league, with 51 matches played in the Spanish league so far.

Gallagher has played 23 times in the Champions League, which is where the Villans are trying to get to, so he would be a vital asset as they chase their ambitions, as he understands what it takes to be on that level.

It would be a huge signing if they could get it over the line, especially if it is a loan with a buy option, as that would perhaps give them the flexibility to add even more quality this month.

If they are to keep their place in the Champions League spots for the remainder of the campaign, they need top-class reinforcements, and Gallagher would be just that.

It would be a huge boost to their chances, and potentially tip the balance in favour of the B6 outfit as they try to make it a memorable season.
