Stan Collymore rages at ‘awful’ figure at Selhurst Park after Aston Villa stalemate

Aston Villa left Selhurst Park frustrated on Wednesday in a game that left Stan Collymore unhappy.

Crystal Palace held Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw on an evening in which they failed to capitalise on Manchester City drawing 1-1 at home to Brighton.

Youri Tielemans’ performance gained him major plaudits, as Aston Villa extended their poor record against Palace.

Unai Emery continues to be linked with the Man United job, and whether there is anything in that and indeed the potential for him to be getting distracted from his main task at hand, remains to be seen.

Stan Collymore fumes at Andy Madley after Aston Villa draw vs Crystal Palace

It was a rare frustrating night at the office for Aston Villa against Oliver Glasner’s side, and marks just their fourth draw of the season so far.

However, for pundit and former Villa player Stan Collymore, the disappointment wasn’t so much with Emery‘s team, but rather referee Andy Madley.

Writing on his X account in response to another user questioning him on his thoughts on the officiating performance at Selhurst Park, Collymore responded: “I thought he was awful.

“Too quick off the mark (didn’t buy himself a second to think), poor communication with players of both teams in real time. A genuinely poor performance.”

Madley was lenient towards both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace

The officials in charge of Villa’s clash with Palace, led by Madley, were happy to let a lot of incidents go unpunished on Wednesday night, rightly or wrongly.

Madley actually penalised the home side considerably more than the away team, with Palace committing eight fouls compared to Villa’s three.

Palace were also shown two yellow cards in the match, whilst those in white shirts escaped without any cautions at all.

A fairly forgettable night as far as Aston Villa are concerned then, as they now prepare to take a break from Premier League action when they travel to Tottenham in the FA Cup third round this Saturday.
