Harvey Elliott given stern Aston Villa transfer advice as exit route opens up
Harvey Elliott has been warned against making a mistake if he leaves Aston Villa this winter.
The summer signing last featured in claret and blue when Villa secured a 3-1 win over Fulham back in September.
Elliott looks destined to leave Villa in January as his lack of game time has become a widespread talking point at Villa Park.
The frustration stems from FIFA rules that prevent Elliott from playing for another side in Europe this season because he has already played for the maximum of two clubs.
That has opened up an exit avenue elsewhere for Elliott, something which he has now been warned against with weeks remaining in the winter window.
Harvey Elliott warned against MLS transfer
Elliott has been linked to Charlotte FC in the MLS, with the Liverpool loanee seemingly assessing a route out of the Midlands.
A switch to work under Dean Smith looks to be one of the only exit links on the table right now for the Englishman, with over a week gone by in the window.
Considering the highs of the summer at the under-21 EUROs, that would represent a fall from grace for the 22-year-old, but it may be his only option.
Former Villa scout Bryan King has sent a stark warning to Elliott and urged him against an MLS switch due to the division’s lack of quality.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “He’s in a very difficult position right now.
“I was one of the few people who said he shouldn’t have gone to Villa, and I stand by that. I didn’t think he’d be good enough.
“I know the situation with his father, who is a big influence on him.
“He went to Villa thinking he was going to start every week and he hasn’t stepped up to the plate.
“I wouldn’t go to America, that isn’t going to help him. All he’ll get is games, but against who? Two-bob opposition?
“There are only three or four tough games in that division, and that’s it.“
Aston Villa must cancel Elliott loan in January
Football is a cutthroat business, and that is what the Villans need to be in this window.
There is a need for reinforcements in January if Villa are to maintain their place in the top three of the Premier League.
Having a loan spot taken up by a player who is never going to feature makes no sense, so paying to break the deal with Liverpool surely makes sense.
That would benefit all parties, affording Elliott the opportunity to get some minutes under his belt, even if it is in America or elsewhere on the continent.
