Aston Villa have Monchi to blame after what happened in draw vs Crystal Palace
Aston Villa could only manage a draw away to an injury-cropped Crystal Palace side on Wednesday.
Villa and Palace played out a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park as Unai Emery once again failed to secure victory over Oliver Glasner.
A point was much more than the B6 faithful could have hoped for after Villa lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace in their last meeting at Villa Park.
Stan Collymoor wasn’t impressed with the officiating against Palace, but in the end, a draw could be argued as a fair result in Croydon.
Things could have been different on the night if not for a largely excellent performance from Jaydee Canvot, who Monchi missed out on during his Villa tenure.
Aston Villa failed to sign Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse
Canvot was a long-term target at Villa, and several offers were made for the Frenchman across multiple transfer windows.
The Frenchman had made 22 appearances for Toulouse as a teenager last season and was showing signs of being a top defensive option.
Villa were in need of defensive reinforcements over the summer and ultimately went on to land Victor Lindelof on a free transfer.
A move for the Sweden international looked underwhelming, but has turned out to be smart business in the end.
That proves what sort of state the Villans were in during the last window, with a failed deal to sign Canvot now looking like a massive regret.
Jaydee Canvot was excellent for Crystal Palace
The 19-year-old is still an unknown quantity to many in the Premier League, but he showcased his qualities against Villa on Wednesday.
Canvot put in a hugely positive shift at Selhurst Park as he featured across 90 minutes as the right-sided centre half in a back three.
The Frenchman completed 35 passes with eight of them going into the final third as he kept Palace ticking while representing an attacking threat.
He also maintained a 100 per cent dribble success rate as he looked to drive forward, but that wasn’t even the most impressive part of his game.
Palace’s defender contributed to 12 defensive actions on the night, with five tackles and six clearances being the headline numbers.
On top of that, Canvot won seven duels on his way to keeping a clean sheet and a point for Palace.
Monchi has to take some blame for missing out on the teenage talent, who proved exactly why Villa should have signed him in the summer.
