Victor Lindelof faces Aston Villa blow as Unai Emery reveals injury update
Victor Lindelof may see his stellar run of form cut short at Aston Villa.
Lindelof has been excellent for Villa in recent weeks as he has stepped up to the first team with ease.
The Sweden international has played a key role as he and Ezri Konsa have been superb for Villa as a central defensive pairing.
This has seen the 31-year-old become a well-appreciated figure in B6, changing opinions after initial summer scepticism following Lindelof’s free transfer to Villa in the summer.
The claret and blue faithful have become accustomed to Lindelof in recent weeks, but his spell in the starting XI could be impacted by the injury latest from Unai Emery.
Victor Lindelof to be dropped at Aston Villa
Lindelof has been surprisingly good for Villa this season, with his experience shining through when called upon.
The Swede has already made 14 appearances for the Villans, with five of those coming as part of the 11-game winning run across November and December.
Arguably, his best performance came against West Ham, where Lindelof grabbed an assist to help Emery’s men on their way to a 3-2 win.
The defender also chipped in with a 90 per cent pass accuracy, four defensive contributions and four successful duels at the London Stadium.
There will be questions over his spot in the team in the coming weeks, with Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings set to make their returns from injury.
Emery confirmed that the duo will soon be assessed and could feature against Crystal Palace in the Premier League clash on Wednesday.
He said: “We’ll see how they are doing, the players, after the match we played on Saturday. Tyrone and Pau are close, but we are going to train now. I don’t know if they’ll be available tomorrow or not.“
Pau Torres could return to starting XI vs Crystal Palace
Lindelof is the man who has come in to replace Torres after the Spaniard picked up yet another frustrating issue during his Villa career.
The ex-Villarreal man has been excellent in helping the Villans turn their early-season form around, with several top-class showings this campaign.
His most recent showing came in the win against Arsenal, where Torres contributed to five defensive actions while winning four duels.
That sort of impact could be useful when Villa travel to face Crystal Palace on Wednesday, something which could serve as a blow to Lindelof’s prospects.
