Alan Shearer taken aback by Aston Villa reveal he’s told by Gary Lineker – ‘Wow’
Aston Villa have made Villa Park an almost impossible ground for opposition sides to win at in recent times.
Unai Emery has led Villa’s incredible fightback of late, with wins coming in the Premier League and Europa League.
Aston Villa were on an 11-game winning streak before league leaders Arsenal stopped the run as Emery’s side fell to a 4-1 defeat at Emirates Stadium last week.
Though the loss was made up for in quick time, as Villa beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 on Saturday to return to winning ways.
Villa Park remains a fortress, and Alan Shearer could not believe one statistic in particular that the home ground boasted from 2025.
Alan Shearer staggered at Villa Park stat that Gary Lineker highlighted
Villa started the season poorly and there were even suggestions that Emery could have been sacked.
Fast forward to the start of 2026, and the Spaniard has the Villans reaching for new heights that were never even dreamt of, with the possibility of winning a Premier League title.
Villa Park has had a heavy emphasis on all of Emery’s success over the past 12 months, with the ground outperforming the likes of Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu and Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.
| Games | Wins | Draw | Losses | Win percent |
| 28 | 23 | 4 | 1 | 82.1% |
While speaking on The Rest is Football Podcast, Gary Lineker brought up Villa’s incredible home record from the calendar year of 2025, and Shearer was left stunned.
Lineker said: “Their home form now, they actually have the best win percentage in Europe’s top five leagues with 82.1 per cent, ahead of City, Bayern, Barca, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.”
Shearer replied: “Wow. Brilliant. Really, really impressive.”
What makes Aston Villa’s incredible 82.1 per cent home record is the ups and downs that the Villans have seen during that period.
Villa Park is the best home ground in England, and the Villa faithful are the reason why it’s such a hard place for other teams to visit.
Villa Park record bound to improve further – here’s why
The exciting part for Villa fans is that the Villa Park home record is only going to improve.
The transfer window is now open, and Emery will be hopeful of new additions to bolster his side, which will only help in seeing more results this year.
Aston Villa’s next three home games:
- Everton – 18 January
- Salzburg – 29 Janaury
- Brentford – 1 February
- Brighton – 11 Feruary
- Leeds – 21 February
Games come thick and fast to start the year, with plenty of favourable matchups at Villa Park for potential new signings to perform in.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Emery lead Villa to another five wins at home in all competitions, before a difficult Villa Park clash with Chelsea in March.
