Unai Emery to regret Amadou Onana call as Aston Villa starting XI named to face Basel

Aston Villa have named their starting XI to face Basel on Thursday.

Villa have travelled to Basel ahead of their Europa League clash in the hope of maintaining their stellar run of form.

The clash away in Switzerland comes just days after Villa secured a last-gasp win against Arsenal at Villa Park, with confidence sky high in claret and blue.

The B6 outfit won’t find it easy, as Villa come up against Basel, who have won two on the bounce in all competitions.

Unai Emery has made changes at St. Jakob-Park with Amadou Onana starting in midfield, something he may live to regret.

Emi Martinez was superb against Arsenal, his impact ultimately helping the Villans on their way to a massive victory in the Midlands.

The Argentina international made seven saves, but isn’t starting away in the Europa League as Marco Bizot comes in from the start once again.

Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash will once again join the keeper in defence, while Victor Lindelof and Lucas Digne have joined the duo from the start.

Lamare Bogarde has come in to join Onana after making an appearance off the bench as a midfielder and right-back last time out.

Youri Tielemans has been dropped alongside Boubacar Kamara, despite creating one chance and contributing to 10 defensive actions against the Gunners.

Amadou Onana could benefit from rest at Aston Villa

Onana has been included from the start in the Europa League after maintaining his 93 per cent pass accuracy in B6, but .

The Belgian may have benefited from a rest after plenty of football in recent weeks, and his recent injury concerns are in claret and blue.

John McGinn and Morgan Rogers could have made a telling impact, but have been replaced by Evann Guessand and Jadon Sancho.

Emi Buendia will join this incoming duo, while Donyell Malen has replaced Ollie Watkins after his lowly 31 touches against Arsenal.
