Revealed: How many January signings Aston Villa are expected to seal after Alysson agreement

Aston Villa’s plans for the January transfer window have been revealed as they close in on finalising an early deal for Alysson.

Villa News exclusively reported on Wednesday that Aston Villa have sealed the signing of Alysson from Brazilian side Gremio, with an announcement expected imminently.

The 19-year-old winger will come in for an initial fee of £8million, which could rise to £10m if add-on clauses are met.

However, Unai Emery’s side could be set for a quieter January overall, despite agreeing the Alysson deal before the transfer window has even opened.

Aston Villa have January transfer window plans in place

Aston Villa sent scouts to watch Alysson back in November, and the Midlands giants have now acted on that initial interest.

Gremio have included a sell-on clause in the agreement, so will be entitled to 10 per cent of any future sale.

According to Sky Sports, the 19-year-old will come in as a development signing before eventually becoming a more prominent part of Emery’s plans.

Sky Sports are also reporting that, despite their early business, Villa are not expected to make a single first-team addition in the January window.

Instead, Emery will utilise the current squad he has at his disposal for the second half of the campaign.

Why are Aston Villa set for a quiet January transfer window?

There are a number of potential reasons why Aston Villa may be refraining from making first-team signings during the mid-season window.

First of all, the Midlands outfit currently sit third in the Premier League, just three points behind table-topping Arsenal.

Emery’s side are in superb form, and the Spaniard may feel that he doesn’t need to unsettle his squad with any additions.

However, the more likely explanation is that Aston Villa are still struggling to meet profit and sustainability rules.

Villa barely scraped together enough money during the summer to avoid punishment, and they will now be wary of overspending.

The January window is notoriously expensive as teams are unwilling to part with their best players, so the Midlands side could be waiting until the end of the season to make further improvements to their squad.
