Aston Villa agree sell-on clause as Unai Emery ready to finalise ‘headline-grabbing’ transfer within days

Aston Villa are already working to strengthen their squad ahead of the January transfer window.

Villa are now firmly in the Premier League title race and are eager to make additions in order to mount a concrete challenge.

Emi Buendia’s 96th-minute winner against Arsenal means that Unai Emery’s side are third in the table, and just three points adrift of the league-leading Gunners.

The Midlands outfit have won nine of their last 10 Premier League games and 13 of their last 15 across all competitions.

Aston Villa close in on Alysson as sell-on clause details emerge

As revealed by Villa News, Aston Villa are close to confirming the signing of Alysson from Brazilian side Gremio.

More details around the transfer have now emerged, and according to AS, the Midlands giants will pay just over £11million to bring in the 19-year-old winger, who made 31 league appearances last season.

Villa have also agreed a 10 per cent sell-on clause with Gremio, meaning the Brazilian side will receive a portion of any future sale.

Back in November, Villa sent scouts to watch Alysson against Cruzeiro, with the teenager playing 76 minutes in a 1-0 defeat.

The Midlands giants have now acted on their interest in the young Brazilian, who is expected to officially join the club on 1 January.

Alysson move could be bad news for Evann Guessand

Evann Guessand only joined Aston Villa from Nice in the summer, but the winger has had difficulty adjusting to life in England.

Guessand has already felt the full wrath of Emery’s fury on several occasions, and may have run out of time to convince the Spanish manager of his abilities.

Alysson will come in at Aston Villa as a right-winger, so he will be directly competing with the Ivorian for a place in the side.

There have already been reports linking Guessand with a move away from Villa Park in January, and the signing of another wide man will only strengthen the rumours.

That being said, Alysson is still young and likely to be a very raw talent, so will need time to adjust to the Premier League and get up to speed.
