Ex-Aston Villa player reacts to Ollie Watkins exit news he’s told, revelation explains a lot

Ollie Watkins’ season finally came to life in Aston Villa’s 4-3 win over Brighton on Wednesday.

Watkins bagged a brace to bring the Villans back into the contest, to bring his tally for the season to three.

Gabby Agbonlahor has revealed his delight for the 29-year-old, and hit out at rumours that Watkins could leave Aston Villa.

It looks as though the striker is finally set to kick on, and lead the Villans line in the way that they need him to.

What did Gabby Agbonlahor say about Ollie Watkins?

Unai Emery revealed this week that Watkins has been playing through injuries, and Agbonlahor believes that is not a surprise.

talkSPORT host Alan Brazil claimed that he has heard that Watkins could leave in January, but the ex-Villa man shut down that idea.

Speaking on 4 December, he said: “Ollie Watkins, I’m so happy for him.”

Brazil replied: “What did I see yesterday, Gab? I read somewhere he’s off in January. I’m like ‘what?'”

To which Agbonlahor fired back, saying: “No. We finally found out he’s been playing injured, which explains a lot. He was the best player yesterday.”

What did Ollie Watkins say about his difficult Aston Villa spell?

It has been one of the toughest periods of his Villans career, as Watkins has struggled to find the consistency that has been a regular part of his game for so long.

He had scored once in 19 appearances before the heroics on the south coast, and was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad in the last international break.

He has admitted that he has found it difficult, speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day after the contest on 3 December, he said:

“It’s been a tricky period in my career. I’ve not had this since the manager came in but I kept working hard and you get your rewards.

“Just a bit of relief, really. I had a difficult run and it’s nice to put that behind me. We started the game slowly but to react like that is nice.”

Hopefully, Watkins can put the poor spell and his injury behind him, and keep firing the goals in for the B6 outfit.

Emery needs his star man to be on top form, if the Villa Park side are to continue their brilliant start to the campaign, which sees them in third place.

They will be looking to get back into the Champions League, and the striker’s showings will be key to that objective.
