Aston Villa ready to seal new forward signing in January, permanent deal only

Aston Villa could make an attacking addition in the January transfer window.

Villa beat Wolves 1-0 last time out at Villa Park as they once again relied on a long-range strike to bail them out in the Premier League.

Boubacar Kamara netted the winner against Wolves with a stunning effort, just a week after Morgan Rogers’ excellent free kick away to Leeds United.

Unai Emery is currently without an inform number nine domestically, with Donyell Malen’s brace against Young Boys not reflecting well against Rob Edwards’ side.

That and a lack of goals from Ollie Watkins could be enough to prompt the Villans into a forward signing when the winter window opens next month.

Aston Villa could struggle to sign forward in January

Villa signed Marcus Rashford from Manchester United and Marco Asensio from PSG on two stellar loan deals nearly 12 months ago.

The duo went on to be the launchpad for the claret and blue outfit to ultimately miss out on Champions League qualification by just goal difference.

Rashford went on to join Barcelona, and the Spaniard finds himself at Fenerbahce, while Villa went on to bring in Evann Guessand, Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott as attacking reinforcements.

Former Villa scout Bryan King sees this drop-off in quality as a concern and believes it could prompt Emery to be active in the winter window.

The question is whether financial rules will allow for the claret and blue outfit to make a move in January.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “Aston Villa had two great front players last season with Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford.

To lose that type of quality and not replace them in the summer, they will be on the lookout for another forward in January.

Who could they bring in? They certainly aren’t going to get a quality player in on loan, that’s for sure.

Then they’ll have to look at a permanent deal, but who’s available at the money Villa have got to spend?

They’ve still got fair play hanging over them; it won’t go away.

PSR and SCR could scupper Aston Villa again

The Villans seriously struggled in the summer, with concerns turning into major worries after a shocking window, all things considered.

Asensio and Rashford were joined by Jacob Ramsey out the exit door as the latter joined Newcastle United in a heavily scrutinised result.

Villa can’t afford to let other key stars leave in January, but also look destined to struggle financially when it comes to completing new signings this winter.

It will be interesting to see how Villa can navigate financial woes and whether that will translate into some exciting additions before the end of next month.
