Jamie Carragher wowed by what Aston Villa star did vs Wolves, he could be up for an award

Emi Martinez has been widely hailed for his wonder save in Aston Villa’s 1-0 victory over Wolves on Sunday.

While the form of the two sides was widely contrasting going into the match, Unai Emery’s side made hard work of Wolves.

In fact, in the first half, Wolves are arguably the better team, and controversially had a goal disallowed.

On top of this, Martinez was called upon numerous times, with his save late in the first half being hailed by Jamie Carragher.

Jamie Carragher: Emi Martinez produced save of the season vs Wolves

After Martinez put in a poor showing against Leeds last week, with a mistake that gifted the hosts the lead, he more than made up for the performance against Wolves.

Nothing got past the Argentine, as he kept Wolves at bay as they looked to take a shock lead.

His best save easily came just before half-time. Wolves’ Yerson Mosquera looked to head the visitors in front. However, Martinez was equal to it, tipping the ball onto the bar to ensure the scoreline remained level at the break.

Speaking on Sky Sports on 30 November, Carragher was quick to praise the keeper.

He said: “It’s the save of the season so far from Martinez.”

Former Wolves captain Conor Coady also added: “It’s the save on the way down. Just as he tips it onto the bar, he’s on his way down, and still keeps out the ball.”

Therefore, there is no doubt that Martinez could end up winning the Premier League Save of the Season for the second campaign running for this moment.

The Argentine also won it last season for his stop in the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

How good was Emi Martinez vs Wolves?
