Jadon Sancho in contention to start vs Wolves after topping fantastic UEFA stat
Jadon Sancho is certainly knocking on Unai Emery’s door to start against Wolves on Sunday after impressing in Aston Villa’s win over Young Boys.
Sancho joined Aston Villa from Man United on a season-long loan, although he is still waiting for his first goal under Emery.
The English winger was incredibly lively during Villa’s 2-1 victory against Young Boys, and has provided a real threat in the Europa League.
Aston Villa are expected to beat 20th-placed Wolves, and Sancho could add another dimension of creativity to the team’s attacking play after topping a Europa League stat against Young Boys.

Jadon Sancho creates six open play chances vs Young Boys
Sancho has only played 88 Premier League minutes this season, but there is still plenty of time to turn his fortunes around.
His performance against the Swiss side certainly won’t harm his chances of starting against Wolves, and according to FotMob, Sancho created six chances from open play against Young Boys.
This is the highest total of any player in this season’s competition, and his 88 per cent pass accuracy on the night reflected how comfortable he was in possession.
| Stat | Jadon Sancho |
| Minutes played | 90 |
| Pass accuracy | 88% |
| Chances created from open play | 6 |
| Successful dribbles | 50% |
Marcus Rashford’s success last season has shown that players out of confidence can excel when playing for Emery’s side.
Sancho was given the full 90 minutes to prove himself, and it certainly wasn’t a bad showing.
The 25-year-old also had five shots on the night, and his xG of 0.65 suggests that he could have scored his first goal since 28 May if it weren’t for goalkeeper Marvin Keller’s heroics.
Some fans were disappointed in his performance, but he ultimately gave the Young Boys defence a torrid time throughout the match.
A start at Villa Park against Wolves would give Sancho motivation to kick on and improve in a Villa shirt as talks about his future continue to rumble on.

Jadon Sancho’s Villa career is in a precarious position
His Man United contract ends in June 2026, and a return to Borussia Dortmund is the most likely option for Sancho at the moment.
Having not played much football this season, he could enter negotiations with clubs when the January transfer window opens.
With the Villans playing an obscene amount of games over the festive period, it’s likely that Sancho will have more of an opportunity to showcase his value to the squad.
Of course, there is tough competition ahead of him, and you wonder if he’ll ever make a lasting impact in B6 with his game time limited.
However, he recorded 112 goal contributions in 158 appearances for Dortmund, and Wolves are the perfect opponents for him to rediscover his form in front of goal.
