‘Jadon Sancho will be gone in January’ – Aston Villa fans react to display vs Young Boys
Jadon Sancho has divided the opinion of the Aston Villa fanbase after his latest showing against Young Boys on Thursday.
Aston Villa beat Young Boys 2-1 at home to extend their impressive record in the Europa League, boosting their chances of booking a spot in the competition’s knockout stages.
Sancho’s future at Villa is uncertain, and there have been suggestions that the Englishman could have his loan deal terminated at B6, which would see him return to Manchester United.
However, Unai Emery gave the winger a massive opportunity to establish himself versus the Swiss outfit, while impressing some, he failed to deceive others.

Unai Emery may be playing Jadon Sancho in the wrong position
Sancho has impressed in glimpses for Villa, but has yet to pick up a single goal contribution in 10 appearances.
He was once touted as one of the brightest young talents for England during his days at Borussia Dortmund, but hasn’t been able to find his old form since moving on from Germany.
- Sancho moved to Manchester United from Dortmund for £73m in 2021
- Villa signed him on a season-long loan this summer
- Sancho created six chances for Villa versus Young Boys
Unfortunately for the Villans, they signed a Sancho who came to Villa Park stripped of any confidence.
Aston Villa supporters discussed his impact against Young Boys on X, with some suggesting that Emery needs to play Sancho at right-wing instead of on the left.
One Villa fan said: “He’s been tidy, and I like him.”
Another Aston Villa supporter claimed: “It’s okay to be a work in progress, but when you’re only on loan, you have to deliver immediately, especially when you’re on the wage Sancho is on.”
Given that Sancho is right-footed, Emery playing him on the left-wing means he has to cut back more often to be productive.
Emery needs to try Sancho on the right
Confidence is one of the most important aspects of being able to perform in football, and Sancho doesn’t have much of it – at the moment.
That doesn’t mean that one day he can’t rekindle his old form, and it may just require a subtle tweak from Emery.
While frustrations are understandable, Villa should be aware of the quality they have in Sancho; all they need to do is unlock him.
To do this, it’s possible that Emery needs to play him on the right-hand side, like fans are suggesting, and he may improve Villa’s attacking output.
The Spaniard may well make the change, but if the winger can’t perform after that, then there will be no more excuses.
