Evann Guessand axed in five changes – Aston Villa predicted XI vs Wolves

Unai Emery could make several changes when Aston Villa host Wolves.

Aston Villa secured a 2-1 victory against Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday, and with a return to Premier League action on Sunday, it’s a quick turnaround.

The Villans have lost just one of their last eight in the league, and come up against a Wolves side who are yet to win a game this season.

However, to keep things fresh, Emery could rotate a couple of players while axing another who had very little impact last time out.

Three changes expected at the back vs Wolves

Emery could make three changes to his back four against Wolves, with Matty Cash, Lucas Digne and Ezri Konsa all returning to the starting 11.

Lamare Bogarde fared well at right-back against Young Boys, winning 75 per cent of his duels according to FotMob, but Cash has been a consistent figure in the league this season.

Those changes would also see Victor Lindelof and Ian Maatsen make way, despite playing a key role in the Villans’ Europa League triumph.

Youri Tielemans registered an assist for Aston Villa last time out and has been integral to their success so far this campaign, and he could be partnered by Boubacar Kamara, who would replace Amadou Onana.

The remaining change is in attack, with Evann Guessand dropping out for John McGinn.

Evann Guessand offered nothing vs Young Boys

Guessand has the fewest touches of any player on the pitch to play more than 45 minutes on Thursday, and when he did have the ball, he did little with it.

He failed to complete a single dribble or register a shot on target, despite what was a dominant display by the hosts.

On the opposite flank is Jadon Sancho, who created six chances against the Swiss outfit, which was the most of anyone on the night.

Morgan Rogers registered an assist for Donyell Malen, with that duo making up the remainder of Emery’s starting 11.

Malen scored twice from just 0.35 xG, which is twice the number of goals scored by Ollie Watkins this season.

In the brief cameo he had from the bench, Watkins completed 71 per cent of his passes, but as has been the theme this season, he offered little threat in the final third.
