Aston Villa excel in Premier League stat that highlights superb resilience under Unai Emery
Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Leeds on Sunday encapsulated the fighting spirit that has been developed under Unai Emery.
After going a goal down early to Lukas Nmecha’s fortuitous finish, Morgan Rogers stole the show at Elland Road.
A deft finish and a swerving free-kick secured all three points for Emery‘s side, with the result moving them up to fourth in the Premier League table.
Villa’s victory against Leeds highlighted yet another occasion when they’ve come from behind to win a Premier League match, and they now sit second in the table for points won from losing positions.

Aston Villa never know when to quit under Unai Emery
Having been appointed as Aston Villa head coach in November 2022, Emery has overseen seventh, fourth, and sixth-placed finishes during his time in B6.
Villa beat Tottenham 2-1 after coming from a goal down, while also sealing a 3-1 victory over Fulham to secure their first Premier League win of the season on 28 September.
Only Brighton (10) have gained more points from losing positions in the Premier League this season than Aston Villa (9).
The Villans have won three of their last four games when conceding first, one more than their prior 17 matches.
| Stat | Aston Villa (last seven league matches) |
| Wins | 6 |
| Draws | 0 |
| Losses | 1 |
| Goals scored | 14 |
| Goals conceded | 6 |
| Points | 18 |
The form has been truly scintillating in recent weeks, and the dreadful start to the season has been quickly forgotten as Villa sit fourth in the Premier League.
Emery made Aston Villa history versus Leeds by reaching 60 Premier League wins in 113 games, 34 fewer than John Gregory.
Two more league wins will see him surpass the totals of Martin O’Neill and Gregory (61) achieved, and it’s a testament to his excellence that he keeps breaking long-standing records.
Of course, the negative to this stat is that Villa are frequently finding themselves needing to drag themselves back into a match, but all that matters heading into the festive period is picking up hard-fought wins.
Unai Emery’s legacy as Aston Villa manager is exemplary
At the start of the campaign, doubts started to creep in over the quality of the squad following a quiet transfer window.
But Emery has a win percentage of 54.14 per cent in all competitions for Villa, and he has once again proven that there is no other manager who could do a better job.
Aston Villa are averaging 1.75 points per game in 2025-26, and they’ve only bettered this figure over the course of a season twice since the Premier League’s inception (1992-93, 2023-24).
The bare minimum a team must show on the football pitch is fight, and Villa have that in abundance this season.
With Emery’s side looking nailed on to go far in the Europa League, this could be a memorable campaign for all the supporters.
