Aston Villa have perfect formula to break down Leeds as remarkable stat emerges
Aston Villa have found a new way of breaking the deadlock in Premier League matches under Unai Emery.
Having won five of their last six Premier League matches, they come into the match against Leeds on Sunday in excellent form.
Aston Villa failed to score in their first four league games, and they’ve found a new way of firing in decisive goals in the Premier League.
Villa have created the second-least expected goals (9.4) in the top flight, but it’s their long-range strikes that have propelled them up the table in recent months.

Aston Villa have scored the most Premier League goals from outside the box
Aston Villa are expected to beat Leeds on Sunday as the home side looks to end a three-match winless run.
Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri had a save percentage of 50 per cent this season, and it bodes incredibly well for Villa.
Unai Emery‘s men have scored 7/13 of their goals from outside the box, which is more than any side in the Premier League.
| Aston Villa | Stat |
| Goals | 13 |
| Goals from inside the box | 6 |
| Goals from outside the box | 7 |
| Expected goals (xG) | 9.4 |
| Big chances created | 15 |
According to Whoscored, Aston Villa have taken 38 per cent of their shots from outside the box, and it’s clear that they are reaping the rewards from their individual brilliance.
Emi Buendia is finally fulfilling the potential that was expected of him, and Villa fans are thrilled with how he’s slotted back into the side.
Buendia’s stunning goal against Tottenham was followed up by another long-range strike versus Bournemouth, and he’s certainly the biggest danger from outside the box.
Of course, this isn’t sustainable in the long run; however, all the current stats point to Emery’s side providing their fans with more magic at Elland Road.
Aston Villa hold excellent record against promoted sides under Unai Emery
The Villans are unbeaten in every match against promoted sides since Emery took charge in 2022, winning 13/17 of those games.
Villa’s 2-1 win over Burnley on 5 October was much closer than it should have been as Emery’s side dominated the match with ease.
Despite dropping points to Sunderland in matchweek five, they have shown their ability throughout the last three seasons to beat the sides that they are predicted to beat on paper.
Perri’s alarming save percentage, combined with Villa’s promising record from outside the box, has already given them an advantage.
Their incredible form against promoted sides has given them a further boost that they could rise up to 4th in the table with a win over Leeds.
