Morgan Rogers needs to justify hefty Aston Villa agreement vs Leeds United, stats show why

Morgan Rogers may have been lucky to receive such a generous fresh deal at Aston Villa, given how he has started the season.

Aston Villa recently handed Rogers a new contract, which will see the midfielder stay at B6 until 2031.

Rogers is hopeful of being in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup and will challenge Jude Bellingham for a starting spot in North America.

However, Rogers has been putting in consistently poor performances for Villa this season, with Unai Emery‘s side set to face Leeds United next on Sunday.

The Englishman simply has to turn up, as the statistics prove how underwhelming he actually has been.

Morgan Rogers’ stats have fallen off a cliff since last season

Rogers had his breakthrough season for the Villans last campaign and was a big reason for the Champions League run seen at Villa Park.

There’s no doubt he is one of the most technically gifted players that Emery has, but questions need to be raised over his form this term.

Morgan Rogers’ stats for Aston Villa in the Premier League this season, according to Sofascore

Rogers has only completed 36 per cent of his dribbles, in comparison to last season when he managed 47 per cent in the top flight.

During the 2024-25 campaign, the attacker racked up 14 goals in all competitions, but has only managed to score just the once in the league so far.

For more than one reason, he needs to turn up for Villa at Elland Road on 23 November, but the stats suggest he may be on a decline.

Chelsea might not be out of Rogers’ head

Rogers has gained serious interest from Chelsea in the past, which has prompted Aston Villa to move swiftly on securing the midfielder for the long term.

You would think that Rogers is settled at B6 considering his new contract, but his performances suggest there could still be thoughts about him moving on in the near future.

Villa want to challenge for European and domestic success this campaign, and Emery will need to make a big call on Rogers if he keeps underperforming.

Leeds look bound for Premier League relegation, and if Rogers can’t perform against the Whites, the alarm bells will start to ring.
