Rachel Daly fumes after Aston Villa Women vs London City Lionesses controversy, ‘If I speak’
Rachel Daly has spoken out after referee Sam Allison made a shocking call in Aston Villa Women’s defeat against London City Lionesses.
Villa Women have been much improved under Natalia Arroyo since her appointment back in May.
Results towards the back end of last season were superb, and elements of that terrific run have been carried forward despite a patchy run in recent weeks.
Even with Villa’s exciting move for Maya Hijikata and others in the summer, a consistent string of results has been difficult to come by for Arroyo.
That was no different against London City Lionesses, as Daly was left fuming, but more by Allison than the performance at Villa Park.
Rachel Daly angered by Sam Allison in Aston Villa Women vs London City Lionesses
Villa fans may be annoyed with the Premier League on the men’s side, but that can’t even be compared with the WSL outfit.
The Women’s side faced newly promoted London City Lionesses last time out in B6 and frustratingly fell to a 3-1 defeat.
Kirsty Hanson did get on the scoresheet, but the Villans were ultimately undone by Saki Kumagai and former Villa forward Isobel Goodwin.
Things could have been so different if Georgia Mullett had been given a chance to run through on goal totally unopposed with the score at 1-1.
Match official Allison opted to blow for half-time, leaving the Villa stars baffled, in particular Daly, as a shocking call let down her fellow forward.
Speaking on the Daly Brightness podcast, the Villa striker tried her best to hold back against the referee.

She said: “If I speak. Wild. I’ve never seen this happen before. It’s just before half-time, the ball goes in behind. Our striker is one-on-one with the keeper, and he blew the whistle for half-time.
“The London City girls were just like, ‘Got away with that one. ‘ Maybe he had his reasoning, who knows.“
Daly right to fume after controversy vs London City Lionesses
There is no getting away from the fact that Villa were totally let down by Allison and his trigger-happy approach with his whistle.
Mullett deserved the chance to go in on goal and have a chance to score her second goal of the WSL campaign, regardless of the time on the clock.
She wasn’t given that, and instead, a shocking call was made that arguably decided the fate of the clash at Villa Park.
The call clearly rattled the claret and blue outfit, and it impacted their game, none more so than Daly, who is still rightly annoyed by the call.
