Aston Villa could lose key duo as worrying Premier League trend emerges

Unai Emery will be hoping for no yellow cards in Aston Villa’s Premier League game against Leeds United on Sunday.

Villa take on Leeds at Elland Road, where Emery will be looking to take advantage of the Whites’ poor form of late on 23 November.

The Villans have a chance to extend history as Aston Villa could become the first team to go four games without conceding at Elland Road against the Whites.

Fans will be glad to see Donyell Malen impress for the Netherlands ahead of the match, while John McGinn made history for Scotland.

Emery now has some important first-team decisions to make and may need to plead for Villa players not to get sucked into a physical battle with Leeds.

Matty Cash and Boubacar Kamara close to Aston Villa suspension

Aston Villa are hoping to get back into the Champions League with a top-five finish in the Premier League this season, regardless of whether they win the Europa League or not.

Emery has been urged to drop Ollie Watkins ahead of the clash, but it may actually be Matty Cash and Boubacar Kamara who the Villa boss will need to keep an eye on.

Premier League rules state that a player who receives five yellow cards in the first 19 games of a season will pick up a one-match suspension.

This means Cash and Kamara must avoid two yellow cards in their next eight league matches, with the tallies reset after 19 games have been played.

If either reaches the threshold, then they could miss crucial upcoming games in the Premier League.

However, Cash averages a booking every 3.6 games and Kamara is worse at one per every three matches.

As things stand, both are on course for a suspension with their current averages.

Cash is unlikely to feature vs Leeds

Thankfully for Emery’s worries, Cash is unlikely to pick up a booking against the Whites, but only because he will not be 100 per cent fit for the clash.

The right-back picked up a knock while away with Poland, and has not been predicted to start versus Leeds. Kamara, on the other hand, has.

This means that Emery has the crucial job of giving the Frenchman a pep talk to keep level-headed against Daniel Farke’s side, who will be aggressive in battle.

Either would be a huge miss in future games, but Kamara is looking the most likely to pick up a suspension in the near future.
