Steven Gerrard odds crash as ex-Aston Villa manager placed on shortlist for Championship job

Steven Gerrard is reportedly on a three-man shortlist to replace Rob Edwards at Middlesbrough.

Boro are currently searching for a new manager, with Edwards expected to move to Wolves this week.

The job will be tempting for many managers, with the Teesside club currently second in the Championship and in a great position to win promotion.

As a result, plenty of names have been linked to the role, with Gerrard emerging as a favourite.

Steven Gerrard just 4/1 to take Middlesbrough job

Gerrard has been linked to the Middlesbrough job since the weekend, when it was clear that Edwards would be leaving Boro.

While this was purely speculation from the bookies at the time, it has now received backing from the Express on 11 November.

The article believes that Gerrard is currently on a three-man shortlist alongside former West Brom managers Carlos Corberan and Tony Mowbray.

It is stated that Boro are in no rush to make a decision on the appointment as they look to find the manager to return them to the Premier League.

Now, BetVictor on 11 November has reduced Gerrard’s odds down to 4/1, with Gary O’Neil and Brendan Rodgers being the current favourites at 3/1.

How has Gerrard fared since Aston Villa?

Since leaving Aston Villa in 2022, the Liverpool legend has not had an eye-catching career.

The manager decided to move to Saudi in 2023, taking over at Al-Ettifaq where he lasted until January 2025.

Since then, Gerrard had been heavily linked with a return to Rangers twice, once in the summer, and move recently in October. However, he did not pursue this chance.

Now, it remains to be seen if the manager takes the Middlesbrough job if it is presented to him.
