Emi Martinez raises alarm as worrying stat emerges ahead of Aston Villa vs Bournemouth
Emi Martinez has to make amends for Aston Villa ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
Aston Villa‘s 2-0 loss to Liverpool came as a result of their own undoing, with the 33-year-old goalkeeper coming under scrutiny for his performance.
Martinez made a shocking mistake for the first goal at Anfield, inexplicably giving the ball to Mohamed Salah, who simply passed the ball into an open goal.
Aston Villa take on Bournemouth at Villa Park on 9 November, and the visitors will be ready to test Martinez as he struggles with a bad patch of form.

Emi Martinez amongst the most error-prone goalkeepers
Martinez nearly left Villa in the summer, and his performance against Liverpool was nervy and complacent throughout.
Since joining Aston Villa in 2020-21, Martinez has made seven errors that have led to goals for the opposition after several high-profile years.
Only three players have registered more than this, and the high-flying visitors may look to get a couple of early shots off against the Argentinian to test his nerve in a rough patch.
| Stat | Emi Martinez |
| Appearances | 8 |
| Clean sheets | 2 |
| Saves | 17 |
| Save percentage | 70.8% |
| Goals prevented | -1.15 |
This is a complete contrast to last season, where he prevented 1.16 xG, whilst preventing 4.17 xG in 2023-24.
Of course, the Argentinian has saved Villa on numerous occasions over the past few years, and he has become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Martinez was excellent against Everton earlier in the season, yet worries are starting to creep in over his ability in the long-term future.
It shouldn’t be understated how important he has been for Unai Emery in the last couple of seasons, although Bournemouth will relish the fact that he is low in confidence.

What test will Bournemouth provide at Villa Park?
Bournemouth have been a breath of fresh air under Andoni Iraola, and they’ve only lost two matches this season.
With those defeats coming in away matches against Liverpool and Man City, it’s evident that they have the quality to cause Villa problems.
Antoine Semenyo and Eli Kroupi have set the league on fire, with players scoring screamers throughout the season.
Bournemouth have scored in the first 25 minutes in each of their last three games, and Martinez will need to be completely switched on in the early stages of the match.
