Morgan Rogers behind only Mohammed Salah after what he managed vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
Morgan Rogers once again showcased his immense quality during Aston Villa’s comprehensive 2-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday.
Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen’s goals sent Villa into sixth place in the Europa League table after a disciplined performance against Tel Aviv.
Despite the fact that Rogers has started this season out of form, Unai Emery has never doubted the potential the 23-year-old has.
Rogers produced a brilliant assist in Thursday’s win, and the goal contribution takes him into second place behind Mo Salah in an impressive metric that dates back to last season.

Morgan Rogers brushes shoulders with Mohammed Salah in impressive stat
Rogers won the PFA Young Premier League Player of the Season in 2024-25, and his stellar performances earned him a first England call-up in November 2024.
Stiliyan Petrov raved about Rogers’ performance, and it has been something we’ve been so accustomed to seeing since his arrival from Middlesbrough.
Not only did he register an assist against Tel Aviv, but he completed 100 per cent of his dribbles as the Israeli side failed to deal with his threat on the ball.
Only Mohammed Salah (25) has registered more assists in all competitions than Rogers (16) has since the start of the 2024-25 season.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2023-24 | 16 | 3 | 1 |
| 2024-25 | 54 | 14 | 13 |
| 2025-26 | 10 | 0 | 2 |
The England international is clearly Villa’s most valuable asset, and his £15million transfer is looking like one of the best Premier League bargains in the last five years.
In the Premier League this season, Rogers has created nine chances, and made 36 touches in the opposition box.
His work off the ball also goes under the radar, having won 40 duels, and making 36 recoveries in the span of just 10 matches.
Rogers is set to sign a new contract, and Villa will need to retain his services if they want to maintain their brilliant progression since Emery moved to B6 in October 2022.

Morgan Rogers contract renewal is vital for Aston Villa’s development
Rogers could be offered a contract that could see him earn close to what Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez are currently on.
This would mean he’d earn around £7.5million a year, averaging out to around £144,000 a week.
It is clear now that with Villa’s squad starting to age, and with PSR forcing them to sell Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle, Rogers holds the most value out of any player in the team.
With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Rogers has been included in the England squad ahead of the likes of Jude Bellingham and Jack Grealish.
It’s clear that Thomas Tuchel is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old, and in his current vein of form, there’s no doubt he’ll continue to go from strength to strength on a club and international level.
