Aston Villa may be left with no choice on Louie Barry after brutal Sheffield United call

Aston Villa could soon welcome Louie Barry back from his loan spell at Sheffield United.

Barry joined Sheffield United on loan in the summer after hardly featuring under Unai Emery throughout pre-season.

The 22-year-old joined the Blades in the hope of a consistent season after Barry’s failed loan spell at Hull City was curtailed due to injury last season.

Things haven’t worked out at Bramall Lane, with Barry struggling to secure regular minutes at Sheffield United since Chris Wilder’s return.

Football League World reported on 7 November that the Blades boss is intent on cancelling Barry’s loan spell to open space in the squad for January additions.

Aston Villa face Louie Barry January dilemma

The Blades seem insistent on sending the young forward back to B6 in the winter after just six Championship starts.

This will come as a blow, as Barry so nearly joined Hull for over £3.5million in the summer, before a deal ultimately collapsed at the MKM Stadium.

As frustrating as that will be, this isn’t the biggest issue that the Villans will face as they move into the January window.

This will come as they’re hands may be forced with Barry as he is only able to make appearances for two clubs in a single season.

The Englishman can be registered for three clubs in one campaign, but is only able to play in official matches for two of them.

Should his loan deal at Sheffield United be cancelled, he can’t feature for Villa if they wish to move him on, which raises more questions than it answers.

Aston Villa must now cut ties with Barry

Every Villa fan wants to see local lads break through into the first team and make a positive impact on the side on a regular basis.

Jacob Ramsey has been a recent example, but even he departed in the summer as financial concerns took precedent in the Midlands.

Barry should arguably be next to follow the attacking midfielder out the door, should Wilder get his wish to send him back to Bodymoor Heath.

There will be a market for the versatile forward in the Championship and League One based on his previous record, particularly with Stockport County, and Villa must take advantage of that.

It seems highly unlikely that he will ever feature under Emery, and it could be time to cut ties before his value plummets further.
