Aston Villa fans will absolutely love hearing what Amadou Onana ‘enjoys’ doing for Unai Emery
Amadou Onana has opened up on the extreme lengths he’ll go to help Aston Villa continue their climb up the Premier League table.
After Aston Villa beat Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday, Onana was hailed for his performance, in what may have been the best outing from the midfielder so far this season.
Onana has missed game time through injury this season, but he’s now back fit and firing.
Villa need players who will do the dirty work for Unai Emery, and fans will be intrigued to hear what Onana has just revealed.

Amadou Onana outlines his commitment to Aston Villa
Aston Villa have flair players like Morgan Rogers and Emiliano Buendia, but Onana is emerging as a cult hero like John McGinn, doing the hard work that often goes unnoticed.
Onana has often been criticised in the past for his performances, as he doesn’t always look so easy on the eye with the ball at his feet.
However, his time at Villa Park is now stacking up, and Onana, still at the young age of 24, could remain at B6 for a long time yet.
- Onana has made 40 appearances so far for Aston Villa
- Last campaign, Onana racked up an average of 2.1 tackles per game
- He also averaged a 63% ground duel win rate during the 2024-25 season
- Onana has also struggled with injuries
After the game, Onana spoke to the media, as the midfielder alluded to his willingness to play a sacrificial part for Emery’s side, after taking a ball to the face during the match.
Onana said, as quoted by John Townley: “I enjoy it. This might sound a little bit psycho, but I enjoy it. I enjoy taking one for the team.
“If I have to sacrifice myself, I will do it, no doubt. I still look alright. I’m still a pretty boy!”
However, Onana’s good form may now come at the expense of another fan favourite at Villa Park.
Youri Tielemans will not walk straight back into Aston Villa team
Youri Tielemans is currently out injured with a calf injury, as the midfielder’s return to action may come in the latter part of November.
There’s growing hope that Tielemans will sign a new Villa contract, as when the Belgian got injured, Emery and Villa seemed doomed.
However, with Onana’s recent performances and Boubacar Kamara staying consistent, it’s not going to be all that simple for Tielemans to come straight back into this Villa side.
Tielemans will have to fight for his place, which may not be ideal considering he will already be playing catch up with his fitness.
With the midfielder out of contract in 2026, Onana’s performances may have a huge knock-on effect on what happens regarding Tielemans’ Aston Villa future.
