Aston Villa face Luka Modric hurdle as eye-catching January transfer possible

Luka Modric could get in the way of Aston Villa this winter.

Villa beat Tottenham last time out to make it five consecutive wins for the Villa Park club across all competitions.

Unai Emery had come under pressure at Villa, but has ridden the wave and has come out on the other end to transform the Villans’ form.

After only signing Evann Guessand from OGC Nice in the summer, the Spaniard could look for further additions in the January window.

The B6 club could face an issue in the shape of AC Milan star Modric, as a bizarre situation looks set to unfold in the transfer silly season.

Luka Modric could halt Aston Villa January signing

Ollie Watkins suffered an injury against Wales on international duty and was only fit enough for the bench at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 29-year-old’s absence was felt as the claret and blue outfit were left without a true number nine option.

Donyell Malen started up front against Spurs, adding to the feeling that another recognised striker is missing from Emery’s squad right now.

This could soon change with Italian outlet Milan Live reporting on 22 October that Villa are interested in Real Madrid youngster Gonzalo Garcia.

A departure from Los Blancos could be on the cards due to a lack of minutes under Xabi Alonso, with the Villans set to face competition from Fulham, West Ham, Villarreal and Valencia for his signature.

AC Milan could soon become a frontrunner to sign the young Spaniard, influenced by the “Luka Modric factor,” which could see Garcia agree to a San Siro switch.

Gonzalo Garcia could be new Jhon Duran for Aston Villa

Villa has a history of a young striker bursting onto the scene and capturing the attention of the wider football world.

That was Jhon Duran last season.

The Colombia international became a beacon of light off the bench as it felt like he would score every time he got the chance.

It unfortunately didn’t work out for the striker as he departed for Saudi Arabia last winter, but he could soon be replaced by Garcia.

The Spaniard similarly came from nowhere in the Club World Cup and became the go-to man for goals in the new addition of the tournament.

As a 21-year-old, he showed little fear and made a name for himself by contributing to five goals in six games before being knocked out of the competition.

Garcia could prove to be the perfect project player for Emery and the sort of backup number nine the Villa have needed since Duran’s departure.
