How Matty Cash won the Aston Villa fans back as new contract reaches final stages
Matty Cash looks set to sign a new contract at Aston Villa, completing what has been a superb turnaround for the defender.
The Poland international was excellent as Villa beat Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday, and played a large part in Emi Buendia‘s winning goal.
The 28-year-old was dominant in the duel, and kept Wilson Odobert quiet throughout the game.
Cash also impressed for Poland in the international break, underlining the fantastic form the right-back has discovered this season.
Even during Unai Emery‘s side’s early-season struggles, Cash scored a stunning goal against Sunderland, and continued to present a reliable presence on the right.

Matty Cash set for fresh Aston Villa terms
Villa were linked with a sensational move for Denzel Dumfries in the summer, which may well have seen the departure of Cash.
But no such move materialised, with Emery keen to back his defender. The 28-year-old has responded emphatically, and now looks to be set to be rewarded further.
Jacob Tanswell reported on Tuesday that Villa have reached an agreement in principle with Cash over a new contract.
The proposed terms would see the defender tied down at Villa Park until 2029, with the option of an additional year.
Villa hope to announce Cash’s new contract this week, once the final paperwork is completed.
Cash has turned the tide at Villa
Cash has not always carried the favour of the Villa fans. The right-back has often flattered to deceive during his time at the club, and his position was identified as one that could be upgraded.
But this season, the 28-year-old has put all of those worries to bed, and is now considered among Villa’s best and most reliable.
Appearing in all of the Villans’ eight Premier League matches, Cash has offered an impressive 87.8% pass accuracy, and has created six chances.

The defender is a constant threat on the overlap, winning eight free kicks and making 21 recoveries.
On the defensive side, too, Cash has been strong, making seven blocks, 14 tackles, and winning almost half of his duels.
With his new contract set to be finalised, the former Nottingham Forest man is set to be racing down the right for years to come.
