Aston Villa given clear message on Youri Tielemans amid latest PSR development

Aston Villa had their summer transfer window heavily dictated to by their PSR standing.

The Villans were largely unable to strengthen their squad in the way that they would have desired, after they missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the 2024-25 campaign.

As a result, they have had to find solutions from within, with the likes of Emi Buendia enjoying a resurgence at Aston Villa and becoming a key player for them once again.

Unai Emery will surely be targeting some new additions in the January transfer window, but it is now becoming increasingly clear that they will face issues once again.

Aston Villa told that they can’t sell Youri Tielemans

Aston Villa are still toeing the line in terms of PSR, and it appears as though there will once again be the need to sell in order to buy, both in January and next summer.

Youri Tielemans was one man who was linked with a move away from B6 in the summer, with Turkish giants Fenerbahce showing a clear interest in him in the latter stages of the window, according to Sporx.

The Belgian has been out since 13 September through injury, and is potentially a player who could generate significant profit, given that he arrived on a free transfer.

However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that the midfielder is simply too important to be sold.

“Villa will be wanting him back in the team as quickly as possible, because he’s a quality player,” King said.

I think he’s a player that Villa have certainly got to hang on to, when he’s in the side, it seems to help Morgan Rogers as well.

“Rogers seems to have more of a free rein when he’s in the team, and a little bit more of a chance for him to push on.

“If you wanted to bring in a player to replace him (Tielemans), you’d have to be looking at between £35million and £50m, and there’s no reason why you’d want to get rid of a player of that quality.”

Villa may have to bite the bullet with Morgan Rogers sale

It looks as though Aston Villa’s PSR concerns are something that will continue to plague them for the foreseeable future, and with that in mind, it could be worth them swallowing one huge sale in order to be able to loosen the purse strings moving forward.

There is near-constant interest in Rogers from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, and it is perfectly viable that the second city outfit could generate at least £80m by selling him.

Given that they bought him for an initial fee of just £8m, almost all of the money that they would receive would go down as profit on their balance sheet, which would free up a little spending capability for them.

Ultimately, it is far from an ideal scenario for Villa, but at some point, they will need to bite the bullet and cash in if they want to bring in new blood.
