Aston Villa fans should be confident ahead of Tottenham clash as promising record emerges

Aston Villa travel to Tottenham as they return to Premier League action on Sunday.

Villa’s slow start to the season is now in the past following four consecutive wins in all competitions.

Aston Villa sit 13th in the Premier League, whilst Tottenham have enjoyed a brilliant run of form under Thomas Frank.

Unai Emery will be looking to build even more momentum as the Villa Park faithful hope their side can leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with all three points.

Aston Villa host incredible Premier League streak after international breaks

Whilst they’ll be up against a buoyant Spurs side, Aston Villa should take pride in the fact that they have an impressive record in games that have taken place immediately after players have returned from international duty.

Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last 10 matches that have come straight after an international break, winning eight in the process.

Emery should also draw on the fact that Villa beat Spurs twice last season, which included knocking them out of the FA Cup fourth round.

Aston Villa’s last five matches against Spurs:

Villa’s 2-1 win over Burnley has reaffirmed the belief that they are more than capable of competing for European football for yet another season.

Despite the impressive feat, Ollie Watkins is a doubt for Sunday following the injury he sustained in England’s 5-0 win over Latvia, whilst Youri Tielemans continues to remain sidelined.

Although Tottenham are predicted as favourites to beat Villa, a win would certainly be a sign of intent that Emery still has plenty more to achieve in B6.

The questions surrounding Ollie Watkins’ availability are concerning, yet Donyell Malen’s brace last time out shows that he could easily deputise in his place.

Donyell Malen set to lead the line for Aston Villa on Sunday

When Evann Guessand was signed in the summer, the expectation was that he’d become Villa’s recognised back-up striker.

However, his poor performances have coincided with Malen’s resurgence in form.

Malen was excellent against Burnley, taking both of his goals with extreme conviction as Villa secured a much-needed win.

The 26-year-old’s versatility is a huge bonus for Emery, with Malen capable of playing in every position across the front four.

There is no Villa player with higher levels of confidence than Malen at the moment, and should Watkins be unavailable, he could pose a huge threat to Tottenham’s defence.
