Amadou Onana labelled ‘lost’ after what he just did away from Aston Villa
Aston Villa are back in action against Tottenham on Sunday, as the Villains look to continue their good form in the Premier League.
After a poor start to the season, Unai Emery found himself under pressure as Aston Villa boss, but things could be looking completely different at B6 within weeks.
Emery has done a good job of turning his side’s fortunes around as they have won four games in a row, with Villa most recently beating Burnley 2-1.
Amadou Onana has struggled with injuries, but made his Villa return against the Clarets.
After his performances for Belgium during the international break, Onana will be hoping to cement himself back in Emery‘s team selections, but it isn’t looking great.

Belgian media gave mixed reviews on Amadou Onana’s performance vs Wales
While still gaining match fitness, Onana has featured in both of Belgium’s games in his nation’s quest for World Cup qualification.
He played 70 minutes in his country’s dominant 4-2 victory over Wales on Monday, but despite the win, national media in Belgium have shared mixed reviews on the Aston Villa man.
Walfoot said, “A little lost on the goal of the header of Rodon, who was also hesitating between the area and the individual marking. Closed the axis of the game well with, already, some skill,” as they gave Onana a six rating.
Minutes | Accurate passes | Ground duels (won) | Possession lost | Rating |
70 | 18/22 | 7 (6) | 4 | 7.3 |
Le Soir gave Onana a rating of seven and said, “He brought his athleticism to the duels and aerial play. He was less visible with the ball at his feet, but that wasn’t his priority.”
Onana seems to have been partially blamed for Wales’ opening goal against Belgium, but he also showed signs of promise, not long after coming back from injury.

Onana has been touted with a Villa exit in the past, but he will want Emery to start him in the upcoming games after recovering from fitness issues.
Unai Emery should leave Onana out of Aston Villa’s line-up vs Tottenham
Onana has started two Premier League games this season, and in both, Aston Villa failed to come away with three points.
Tottenham are on top form and sit third in the Premier League, as Thomas Frank’s side will be no easy pushover.
It’s for that reason that Emery should persist with his winning side and the same midfield that he deployed against Burnley, with Boubacar Kamara and Lamare Bogarde.
Once Onana is fully up to speed, then Emery should look at easing him back in, depending on results.
