Donyell Malen has had a great couple of weeks after a difficult start to the 2025-26 campaign.

The Aston Villa forward has sprung to life and is starting to have a real impact on the pitch.

Malen netted twice against Burnley before the international break to ensure Villa picked up three points.

This comes after Malen was criticised for his displays at Villa Park, with the attacker unable to find the net until the game against the Clarets.

Now, the 26-year-old has seemingly continued his run of form, after impressing on international duty.

Donyell Malen praised for ‘lovely’ finish against Finland

Like many Aston Villa players this month, Malen was called up for international duty.

Looking to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the attacker helped oversee a 4-0 victory over Malta in the week.

After impressing from the bench, the Villa star was awarded a start against Finland on Sunday, and here, he made his performance count.

Just eight minutes into the match, Malen was able to find the back of the net to give the Netherlands the lead before they eventually picked up another 4-0 win.

Rating his performance, Football Oranje on 12 October awarded Malen a 7.5/10, commenting: “A threat throughout the game and took the opening goal well with a lovely strike.”

How good was Malen vs Finland?

Malen no doubt put in an impressive display on Sunday.

According to Fotmob on 12 October, he was awarded an 8.1/10, with his ability in front of goal being a particular highlight.

With Tottenham up next, given Malen’s form, Emery will surely keep him in the starting XI.

Performances should be rewarded with starts, and there are few better Aston Villa players at the moment.
