What games Ollie Watkins could miss for Aston Villa after ‘nasty’ England moment vs Wales

Ollie Watkins could be set to face a spell on the sidelines for Aston Villa.

Watkins has looked jaded for Villa this season after scoring just one Premier League goal in claret and blue so far.

Unai Emery has continued to back the striker and saw his faith repaid after Watkins netted in the 1-0 win over Fulham at Villa Park.

Thomas Tuchel saw enough to call him up to the England squad and will have been glad to see Watkins score alongside Morgan Rogers against Wales.

However, the Villans would have been gutted to see Watkins forced off through injury after netting for the Three Lions as the B6 outfit await their return to club action.

Ollie Watkins collides with post in England win vs Wales

Villa looked to have found a winning formula as Watkins and Donyell Malen started together against Burnley last time out.

The Dutchman netted twice and linked up well with his strike partner in what was a breath of fresh air in the Midlands.

There was hope that this approach would continue after the international break, but that may now be in jeopardy for Emery and Co.

Watkins scored to make it 2-0 to England against bitter rivals Wales, but would later miss a golden chance to double his tally.

In doing so, the Villa star collided with the post in what the Daily Mail described as “nasty,” before being removed at half-time by Tuchel.

The Villa Park faithful have been left concerned by this development and will question how long the striker could be out for.

What games could Watkins miss for Aston Villa?

Watkins was left writhing in agony and clutching his knee before walking off gingerly at Wembley.

Having collided strongly with the post, his England teammates were left hugely concerned as the medical staff were called for.

Even if this only turns out to be a bruised knee, the striker could be out for many weeks.

Villa’s next fixture is coming up 10 days after the victory over Wales, with Watkins potentially set to miss out.

Aston Villa upcoming fixtures:

In a worst-case scenario, the Englishman could miss several games for the Villans in both the Premier League and the Europa League.

The Holte End faithful will now have to wait for a fitness update from St George’s Park to learn when their record goalscorer could return to action.
