Where Villa Park ranks among Premier League’s biggest grounds as expansion plans revealed

Aston Villa have been on a meteoric rise in the past decade.

Unai Emery has Villa back to winning ways in the Premier League, but it wasn’t that long ago that the Villans were struggling in the Championship.

Villa are now European hopefuls, as key players like Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa have shone at B6 recently.

Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris will be delighted, with Aston Villa set to receive a cash boost soon, as more exciting news on Villa Park‘s expansion plans has been revealed.

Villa Park further exceeds Stamford Bridge capacity amid 470-seat expansion

Aston Villa have had plans to upgrade Villa Park from their capacity of 42,918 to a target of 50,000.

According to Aston Villa‘s club website, they have confirmed a planning application for a 470-seat expansion across their South-East and South-West corners.

Villa Park will now move further past Chelsea and Stamford Bridge’s capacity after the expansion is complete, taking it to 43,388 seats.

“The proposed works to infill the South-East and South-West corners of the stadium are key elements of the ongoing modernisation of Villa Park to enhance spectator facilities and overall matchday experiences,” the recent statement read.

“Subject to planning approval, the development will add approximately 470 new seats across these two corners of the stadium. New seats will be provided across general admission, hospitality and accessible seating.

“The proposed works to the South-West corner of the stadium where the Holte End and Trinity Road stands meet will see construction of new general admission and hospitality seating across four levels of the stadium bowl.

Manchester United lead the way with a capacity of 74,879, with West Ham (62,850) and Tottenham (62,500) completing the top three.
