Morgan Rogers can match Andy Carroll’s record when England take on Wales in friendly showdown

Morgan Rogers could make his own history away from Aston Villa with England.

Aston Villa ironically cheered Rogers against Bologna, summing up how difficult this season has been for the attacking midfielder at Villa Park.

Rogers still has undoubted quality for Villa and will be hoping to showcase that on the international stage in the October break.

The 23-year-old was excellent for the Three Lions against Serbia last time out, even if Tim Sherwood didn’t name Rogers in his dream England side.

Rogers will hope he can replicate that form against Wales on Thursday as he looks to match a record set by Andy Carroll in 2012.

Morgan Rogers set for ninth England cap

Andy Townsend has high hopes for Rogers with England after what has been a hugely positive start to life with the senior national team.

The ex-Manchester City youngster is yet to score under Thomas Tuchel but picked up an assist in his most recent outing under the German.

He has once again earned a spot in the squad at St George’s Park despite his poor start to the campaign, in a chance to turn his season around.

A friendly clash against Wales is first up for England as Craig Bellamy’s side prepares to travel to Wembley on Thursday.

If Rogers is to play a part in the capital, he will pick up his ninth cap, bringing him level with Andy Carroll.

The former Newcastle striker is tied on nine with other familiar faces like Danny Murphy, Callum Wilson, Steve Stone and Noni Madueke.

Villa fans will be hopeful that their number 27 can get on the pitch at the home of English football and once again prove himself in the white of England.

What has Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers said about playing for England?

Featuring for your nation is one of the biggest honours for footballers, and it is no different for Rogers.

When he signed for Villa in a shock move from Middlesbrough, playing for the Three Lions was nothing but a pipedream.

This has become a reality with an excellent run of form since becoming a regular under Unai Emery in the Midlands.

Rogers has since revealed that he is “thankful and grateful” to be an England international after being called up in what he described as a “pinch-me moment”.

With the World Cup coming up, the Villa star will be hopeful of earning himself a place in the squad as he looks to show his talents against Wales.
