£10m windfall looms for Aston Villa as loan star nears obligation trigger
Unai Emery will be looking forward to adding to his squad in the January transfer window.
Aston Villa have had battles with PSR in the past, as speculation over the summer built over the potential sale of Morgan Rogers to aid the Villains financially.
There were questions over Villa’s transfer business this summer, as Harvey Elliot’s move to B6 also drew controversy.
Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris will however, be delighted to understand a recent financial influx coming Aston Villa’s way.

Enzo Barrenechea nears permanent Aston Villa exit worth over £10m
Enzo Barrenechea joined Aston Villa from Juventus in July 2024, and since being contracted to Emery’s side, the 24-year-old has yet to make a competitive appearance.
The Argentine is a defensive midfielder and had competition for a starting spot with the likes of Amadou Onana, Boubacar Kamara, and Youri Tielemans.
Enzo Barrenechea at Valencia in the 2024-25 season:
- 32 appearances
- One goal and two assists
- Valencia finished an underwhelming 12th
After a loan move to Valencia last season didn’t quite work out, Villa then loaned him to Benfica in the summer. A deal that contained both a loan fee and an obligation to buy should Barrenechea reach 15 games for the Portuguese side.
Barrenechea has played 14 games already for Benfica this campaign, and is one game away from triggering a permanent move for a reported €12m according to Portuguese outlet A BOLA.
The fee equates to approximately £10.4m as Villa could also benefit from his potential future Benfica sale.
Unai Emery could be set for an Aston Villa transfer boost
The extra cash will no doubt help Aston Villa, as Emery could see an extra pot of cash to use in January.
New president of football operations at Villa, Roberto Olabe, will be planning to bolster Emery’s squad in the next transfer window to help with European and domestic success.
Olabe and Emery worked together previously at Real Sociedad, as the former had great success with transfers, bringing in the likes of Alexander Isak and Mikel Merino.
Villa fans will be hoping to see some of the same shrewd business at their club soon, as Barrenechea’s funds will help.
