Youri Tielemans return timeline emerges in calf injury update at Aston Villa

Youri Tielemans has his sights set on an Aston Villa return after weeks out with injury.

Tielemans was linked with a Villa exit in the summer, but Unai Emery’s side were able to keep hold of their star midfielder.

The Villa Park club were then dealt a blow after Tielemans picked up an injury against Everton and was forced off at half-time.

The Belgium international has since missed six games in all competitions with a calf injury, including Villa’s most recent win over Burnley on Sunday.

Villa have now learned when they could welcome Tielemans back to their squad after nearly a month of absence in the Midlands.

Youri Tielemans could return after international break

Tielemans was superb for Belgium against Liechtenstein, showcasing exactly why he was the player of the year in B6 last time around.

Having lost him now for what is going to be over a month has to be seen as a major blow.

Youri Tielemans missed games:

Form may have improved in recent weeks, as wins and goals have become a regular occurrence again, but getting the midfielder back will certainly represent a boost.

There has been general radio silence on this topic as the Villa faithful question when they might see the 28-year-old back in claret and blue.

Injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar has shared his belief that Tielemans will return after the international break as Villa take care with the sensitive nature of a calf problem.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Dr Brar said: “It’s challenging to say because the information is so limited on this, it will be after international break, at minimum.

Calf issues can be really challenging because of how sensitive they are with high, constant demands placed on them in football.

Aston Villa must treat Tielemans return with caution

Villa do have a previous history of recurring fitness problems that have caused issues for them further down the line.

Amadou Onana is a notable example in recent months, with the 24-year-old having been absent since August after making just three appearances this season.

Villa won’t want Tielemans to follow the same path and should delay his return as much as possible to minimise the risk of further injury trouble.

It will be interesting to see when he makes his return, with the international break potentially coming at the perfect time for the Belgian.
